Space As Discursive Form

Space. Discursivity. Form. These three words express our fundamental conviction in the design disciplines, which, when pursued in their highest disciplinary forms, are capable of transcending the domains of mere aesthetics and instrumental functionality to reach the height of discourse: a disciplinary modality that, ipso facto, cannot be reduced to the act of statement-making alone; rather, it denotes the formulation of positions grounded in explicit intellectual intention and methodological rigor, critically engaging with a multidimensional field of social, cultural, philosophical, and environmental concerns. It is this theoretical commitment that underpins the designation of our research teaching studios as “Space as Discursive Form”, reflecting a conceptual framework wherein spatial design practices are simultaneously conceived both as a “form of discourse” and as “discourse in form”.
